"Ylse" Unapologetically Latina!

A conversation with Ruth Livier and Joe Camareno creators of "Ylse" last week at their home in LA... how else but via web. Yes, the wave of the future not just with amazing web content like "Ylse", but also the ability to do Journalism 21st century style, and without the multi-million dollar network facilities. The story was shot via Skype from San Antonio to LA and back. Enjoy!

Part irreverent comedy, part drama and part activist "Ylse" is someone everyone should meet, and a Latina Latinos would most certainly identify with.  Introducing "Ylse", a ground breaking Web Series forPicture_4
Latinos by Latinos, and many are already talking about it.  And, yes, you heard it here first... you can't watch this great new series on TV.... created by Ruth Livier, Showtime Resurrection Blvd., Ylse is only available on-line through viral web sites like YouTube. The web-only series is bilingual, but mostly in English focused on a new generation of Latinos, and women in particular.

"Ylse" (ee-l-say) for those Spanish impaired :) is the story of a Latina journalist looking to break in, and the challenges she must face... from political correctness to bra "pads."   "Ylse" production is put together by a group of Latino producers, actors and film makers in Los Angeles with their own backing, and no big studios to answer to.  "It takes a lot of Love...." says Executive Producer and director Joe Camareno, and adds that viral web traffic is slowly but surely increasing.  Ruth Livier is the creator behind the ground breaking series which she describes as her way to tell the world how "Latinos live the American experience."  Season one includes four episodes.... stand-by for Season two.

Good Night and Good Luck

"Good Night and Good Luck" The Movie

"We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty.  We must remember always that accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law;  we will not walk in fear, on another.Murrow

We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men-not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate,, and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular."

-Edward R. Murrow, "See it Now," CBS News

Without a doubt, timeless words of Edward R. Murrow.  Words that, now more than ever, seem to reflect our times, when our country seems to often fear speaking on controversial issues in fear of retaliation from others who blindly follow without question and self respect.  Situations that apply to such complicated subjects as Iraq, but also to our simple and mundane daily work and lives.

Now more than ever, a journalist must be the voice of those who do not have a voice.  Let our words, our work uncover those hiding their self serving interests behind masks of friendship, authority and public service.  Be it in our society, our politics, our corporations and without a doubt, our newsrooms.

To what Mr. Murrow once said... "do not confuse dissent with disloyalty", I will add... make those responsible... accountable.
