Like every year... we're gearing up to get away from the rat race to our favorite place in the world... Mérida, the capital of the state of Yucatán. The most beautiful city in the region, some say, since the Spanish Conquest.
Let me tell you how much we love this place... we just received two Emmy nominations for our work during Katrina... so it was either the awards ceremony or our time to break away...
We've taken a vote... Vacation it is!!! We'll find out if we got an Emmy during our trip.
So "se la vi..." we'll be at beautiful Hotel Caribe in downtown Merida... sipping Leon beer, Pina Coladas and the best Yucateca food. Then off to Tulum... white sands and blue water... and the best place to stay... Amansala.
We highly recommend:
Hotel Caribe, 888.822.6431 from the U.S.
This three-story colonial-style hotel is great
for a couple of reasons: Its location at the back of Plaza Hidalgo is
both central and quiet, and it has a nice little pool and sun deck on
the rooftop with a view of the cathedral. From there we are able to walk everywhere day or night. Merida is well known for
it's almost next to nothing crime rate.
The rooms are nice and comfortable. Thirteen clase económica rooms don't have air-conditioning; standard rooms do; and superior rooms (on the top floor) have been remodeled and have safes, hair dryers, larger windows, and quieter air-conditioning.
Most of all, we enjoyed the restaurant with it's great home made Yucatecan cuisine.
Just take a look at our room's view... should we say more ?
This is not Cancun... that's for sure... It's 1-billion times better... away from fast food and loud "americans"
Aman" means "state of traquility, peace" and "Sala" means water.
So... tired of the newsroom and breaking news?
Now you know our secret!
